Avvanta Anti-Phishing Filter

Avvanta's Anti-Phishing Filter was created due to the steady increase in both the quantity and sophistication of phishing emails. Avvanta administrators have installed this filter for customers' email to try and mitigate this type of threat and reduce the risk of malicious actions on our customers. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the system or on a message you get from our system, please feel free to contact Avvanta customer support by calling 1-888-662-5274, or by email at support@avvanta.com.

A "phish" is any communication that masquerades itself as being from a trusted or known sender. Phishing attacks use 'spoofed' emails and fraudulent websites designed to fool recipients into divulging personal financial data such as credit card numbers, account usernames and passwords, social security numbers, etc. By hijacking the trusted brands of well-known banks, online retailers and credit card companies, phishers are able to convince up to 5% of recipients to respond to them.

Always be suspicious of any email with urgent requests for personal financial information, and if you suspect the message might not be authentic, don't use the links in the email to get to any web page.

Regularly check your bank, credit and debit card statements to ensure that all transactions are legitimate, and regularly log on to your online accounts. Finally, always, ensure that you're using a secure website when submitting your credit card or other sensitive information via your Web browser.

What You Can Do

Our Advanced Spam Protection filter already recognizes many phishing attempts. If you haven't already, we highly recommend that you enable ASP on all of your email boxes. Most phishing messages will automatically be tagged as spam and be sent directly to your Trash folder.

You can also take precautions by following these steps:

What does the Avvanta Anti-Phishing Filter Do?

While we cannot address the unlimited variations of banking or web-based phishing style emails, we have implemented logic on our mail systems to directly highlight messages claiming to be from Avvanta administrative mail accounts. If a message claims to be from an Avvanta administrative email address and that email is delivered to our systems from outside our network the email will be altered by our mail filters to prepend a warning.

False Positives

There is the possibility that our anti-phishing filter may trigger on perfectly legitimate Avvanta correspondence. If you feel this has occurred please contact us so we can investigate and better tune our filter if necessary. There is at least one method where our anti-phishing filter may trigger on perfectly legitimate Avvanta correspondence. If you forward your mail to an outside mailbox and that message gets returned or forwarded back to either your own or another Avvanta mailbox, that message will be considered a phish and treated as such.
