Portland Fiber Cut

A fiber cut at approximately 10:30am PST in Portland Oregon has disrupted DSL service for all customers in the Oregon LATA. Splice trucks arrived on-sight at approximately 1:30pm and are currently working on repairs. No estimated time of repair has been provided by the carrier. This notice will be updated as information is received.


Updates: (Times are events as reported from the carrier, not when posted to this notice)

10:30am PST: Two DS3s long haul host circuits failed affecting all DSL customers (Verizon and Qwest) in Coos Bay, OR and surrounding area. These customers are unable to route and connect. NNMC-IP is working with GNS and local LEC to isolate trouble. No ETR.

1:30pm PST: There is a fiber cut by a construction crew in Qwest territory in Columbia City. The GNS circuits connect to Global Crossing and then to Qwest. Qwest reported to Global Crossing they will be set up to begin splicing around 1:36 PM PT. No ETR.

5:30pm PST: Qwest repaired a portion of the fiber cut on one of the DS3 and approximately half of DSL West customers restored. Qwest continues working on restoring remaining customers. No ETR.

10:30pm PST: Carrier spliced and restored fiber cut. Location of cut was at bank of the Columbia River, making it difficult to repair.
