Late yesterday some packet loss developed on one of the moved circuits. That packet loss resulted in DHCP timeouts for many customers, especially Verizon connections. The problem has been resolved however some Verizon DSL modems did not succeed in re-establishing their connection after the problem was fixed.
To re-establish a Verizon DSL connection, use the following procedure:
- Unplug the power from the DSL modem and leave the modem unplugged.
- Unplug or power-off the next device behind the modem, usually your router. Be sure to leave the power off.
- Plug the DSL Modem's power back in and wait at least two minutes.
- After two minutes, plug the power back in to your DSL router.
It is very important to follow this procedure exactly as outlined here. If the modem and router are powercycled in any other sequence the router finishes booting up long before the modem has finished establishing the actual DSL connection, leaving the router thinking that there is no internet connection available. Most routers will re-query the DSL modem for connection status within a few minutes but some routers do not (or don't do it correctly), leaving your computers offline despite the fact that the modem is online and a connection is actually available. For the majority of our Verizon customers still experiencing connection problems the above procedure has corrected the problem. If your Verizon DSL connection is still unavailable after performing these steps, please call our office.
