Domain Registrar Transfer Changes
Posted by admin on 2004-11-17 18:11:21
Recent reports of an ICANN Registrar Transfer policy change have resulted in some concerns over "domain hijacking". Like many other Registration Service Providers we do not believe the policy change will result in wholesale hijacking of domain names from their rightful registrants. The change however creates the possibility that it could happen even if on a limited scale. As a result we have decided to err on the side of caution and have placed a Registrar Lock on all domains registered through Avvanta via OpenSRS to prevent any hijacking from occuring.

The Registrar Lock prevents unscrupulous Registrars from "poaching" or hijacking your domain registration. The Lock does not prevent you from changing hosts or ISPs. If you wish to host the domain with another provider you do not need to remove the Registrar Lock. If however you wish to transfer your domain to a Registrar other than OpenSRS you must first contact the Avvanta Hostmaster to remove the lock. The lock will be removed usually same day. All new domain registrations will be locked by default.
