Version v5.2 of Avvanta's Communications Control Center has been released at www.avvantamail.com.

The CCC has an all new look to go with our new name. Included with that new look are several new features and numerous improvements in functionality. Some of the major points of this release:

  • An all new message display system. The CCC can now display messages that include attachments with embedded messages.
  • Greylisting has been added to our Advanced Spam Protection.
  • A new WYSIWYG editor. While still experimental, it is fully functional and gives word-processor like capabilities when composing email. It can be activated from the CCC's Preferences section.
  • Leaving the compose message screen before sending a message now requires confirmation
  • Better message formatting when forwarding and replying to messages
  • Numerous other minor functionality and speed improvements

Message Handling
The CCC now includes a completely new message parsing system for displaying messages. This new message parsing system renders complex messages much more accurately, including messages with multiple embedded messages. Previously many of these messages would appear with downloadable attachments. The CCC can now handle any level of attached messages and display them as they were intended.

The new what-you-see-is-what-you-get (WYSIWYG) editor gives word processor capabilities to email, including bold, italics, colors, images and much more. The following screen shot shows some of the capabilities of this new editor:

To reduce the chances of accidentally losing a message you are writing, navigating away from the compose screen will now cause a warning to pop up making sure that you want to leave.

The CCC's new message parser and the new WYSIWYG editor make the CCC one of the most advanced and powerful webmail systems on the Internet.

Advanced Spam Protection

The latest addition to Avvanta's anti-spam arsenal is Greylisting.

Greylisting is an anti-spam measure that can block significant amounts of spam from being delivered by taking advantage of the fact that most spam sources do not behave in the same way as legitimate mail sources.

When an account is greylisted, each time a new mail message arrives Avvanta's mail servers will inform the sending server that it must try again later. The details of the mail transaction are then stored so when the sender's mail server trys to deliver the message again the message will be accepted and delivered. All legitimate mail servers will usually re-try delivery within an hour, spam delivery systems will typically not try again.

Be default, Greylisting is not active. You will need to manually turn on Greylisting from the Preferences section.
