The Counterpath XLite 3.0 softphone is a freely available program you can use to make and receive VoIP telephone calls directly through your computer. You can even use the softphone when travelling which lets you take your Avvanta VoIP service on the road with you.

Download and install the XLite program. Xlite 3.0 is available for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux. If prompted to do so, reboot your computer before attempting to use the program.

The first time you run XLite, the Add Account dialog will be presented to you. Click on the Add button.

Configuring the XLite 3.0 Softphone Display Name: Your name User name: Your VoIP Phone Number Password: Your VoIP Password Authorization user name: Your VoIP Phone Number Domain: sip.avvanta.com Register with domain and receive incoming calls: Checked proxy: Selected Address: sip.avvanta.com

All other settings on the other tabs should be left at their default values. Click on OK

After clicking the OK button, you should see your softphone go through the Initialization and Registration phase. Once successful, the phone will display your VoIP telephone number. Your XLite 3.0 Softphone is now ready to make and receive phone calls. Remember that you must have a working microphone installed on the computer for callers to hear you.
